Living In Balance - How do you know and how can you get there?
When your life isn’t in balance, it’s important to sit down and take time to figure out why. One really useful tool I use with my clients is the “Environment Wheel” (also called “Life Wheel”, or many other names).
When using it, you decide what the ideal situation would look like for this area of your life - and where you are compared to your ideal. You can then find out how to uplevel each area of your life and make a plan for it.
Being in balance is similar to a car tire. You need it round to move, if one side is flat, you aren’t going very far.
What are these “environments” in the environment wheel?
Each “environment” reflects an area of your life, and the score you give that area of your life, reflects how successful you feel that area of your life is.
There is no universal definition of success. It’s what you make of it, what you believe it is.
In each of the environments, what would you consider success? Any of the areas can change from day to day in any given situation.
Physical Surroundings
Anything in our physical area can cause irritation or frustration. Are you inspired, or does your energy fade away in your space?
Body
How do you feel about your physical body? Inside and outside? Is your energy positive or negative?
Self
How do you feel about yourself internally? Do you like who you are?
Money
Anything related to finances. Are you where you want to be? What is your relationship to money? Are you secure in your relationship with money?
Network
Who do you surround yourself with outside of your core relationships? We all have many networks. Do they serve you, or drain you?
Support Team
Do you have these 5 elements; personal coach, accountability partner, mentor, live events, and mastermind groups? Where do you go for support?
Core Relationships
These are your closest and most influential relationships. Who are the 5 -8 core people who influence you most? This does not necessarily mean your family or close friends.
Nature
How do you relate to nature? Do you spend time outdoors?
Spiritual Connection
This is our personal connection with a higher power. It may not mean going to church every week, or following any specific religion. What is important to you to connect to on a deeper, personal level
Belief System
In general, do your beliefs help or hinder your goals, happiness, and fulfillment?
How to Rate your “performance” in each of the areas of your life
Right now, what would you consider a 10?
Where do you rate from 1-10?
What one thing would you like to change?
Would it take you to the next level?
Ex. If you rated this area of your life as a 6, what would it take to get you to a 7?
Schedule the actions you need to take to get there! If you don’t put it on your schedule, you’ll never make time for it.
Ask for accountability. Tell your friend you’ll give her $100 if you don’t take action!
Now is not the time to edit yourself. Be truthful and get to the bottom of your irritation. So many people know that there is something that isn’t balanced in their lives but don’t know what it is or how to fix it.
Doing this exercise is a great start.
Start with 1-3 environments and schedule 1 thing that will uplevel you.
Any step, big or small, moves you forward. Your mind will be clearer, your energy levels will increase and you will feel satisfied that you are working your way to balance.
If you don’t know where to start or you feel that you need more support with this, I would love to take you through the steps.
